I’m still pretty new at this non-profit thing. All of my professional experience lies in the fields of marketing, PR, sports journalism, and retail loss prevention. Trying to build a non-profit and grow it into something that can help hundreds of thousands of people is a little bit of a culture shock for me.

Now, instead of selling an item, I find myself selling an idea, or a cause. And it’s a tough sell, as so few people are willing to give of themselves – and of their bank accounts – for a cause they aren’t familiar with.

But to me, that’s just more proof that we’re needed. If nobody knows, and nobody’s teaching them…then the families who need our help the most are left alone and in need.

I’m not willing to let that happen.

This is just a quick note to let those who follow us, and those who find us, know that we’re here for the long haul, even if that haul is uphill both ways in the winter. Without shoes.

But when we finally do get to the top, and we can help those families, we’re going to have a heck of a story to tell.

Nothing for iPhone, as Apple makes it pretty tough for organization who aren’t generating a ton of money to get in their store, but we’re looking at other options.

The auction will take place on eBay, and every penny raised will go directly to our foundation to help us fund our fight against young-onset Alzheimer’s disease. We’ll kick off Warrior Auction on September 10, 2010, and we’ll end it on October 10th.

As many of you know, October 10th is the birthday of Sharon Antcliff, the reason this foundation exists. She would have been 63. So let’s raise a lot of money, and make it a happy birthday celebration!

Sports memorabilia is our main target, but we’ll take any value items that could help us raise some funds for our fight against young-onset Alzheimer’s. It’s cliche, but not any less meaningful, to say that we could not have pulled off this event without the support and efforts of so many of you who visit our website. Whether your contribution was emotional, physical, financial, or even if you were just thinking good thoughts on our behalf, please know how appreciative we are for all you’ve done.

Our night was a great success. We raised just over $1,000, which isn’t bad when you consider this was a party, and not a fundraiser! Most importantly, we made friends with some people who may be able to help SAF grow and start reaching some of our lofty goals soon.

We now have our www.safwarriors.org campaign, the www.abuck.org campaign, and we recently started our full-throttle awareness movement at www.stealingthefuture.org.

We’ve accomplished quite a bit in a short time, and we’re proud of what we’ve done. Many of you reading this have played a huge part in enabling us to get this far, and we want you to know that we are forever thankful for you and your contributions.

That said, in a fight like this, there’s always more that needs to be done. While our fundraisers, grant-writers, and volunteers all continue to pick up steam, it’s our supporters who keep us moving forward.

We’re asking that you take some time to consider our planned giving program. Below are three links. One is for $50 a month for a year, the next is for $30 a month for a year, and the last one is for $15 a month for a year. In order for us to do everything we need to do to be self-sufficient, we need an average of 50 people to dedicate $50 a month to our cause. These funds will be used to pay our basic bills, including hosting, internet, phone, printing/shipping, venue deposits, and more – everything we need to take care of that will allow us to ficus on the mission at hand.

Can you set aside your dinner and a movie once each month? There’s $50. Can you give up your Friday Starbuck’s stop each week? There’s $30. Can you take a lunch to work once a week instead of going out? There’s anywhere from $15 all the way back up to $50. What can you put on hold in order to help ensure that the Sharon Antcliff Foundation is able to move forward?
